Osteoarthritis: How minimally invasive, robotic assisted joint replacement can help

TUCSON, AZ (July 23, 2026) – What is osteoarthritis?

The most straightforward definition, from orthopedic surgeon Dr. Francisco Jaume, D.O., of Northwest Bone & Joint at Duval Mine: It’s a common condition when age, and/or trauma, degrades the cartilage on the ends of your bones and stops it from doing its job as a shock absorber.

When that happens, your bones start rubbing together. If you have osteoarthritis, you know how painful this can be, and how it can curtail your ability to go golfing, play pickleball, or lift your grandchildren.

When conservative treatments (like cortisone and hyaluronic acid injections) fail, surgical options like minimally invasive robotic-assisted total joint replacement can provide hope for pain-free use of the joint – and prevent further damage to the bone.

At Northwest Bone & Joint, Dr. Jaume – and the other orthopedic experts on our team – are dedicated to treating osteoarthritis, as well as other disorders of and injuries to the skeletal system (which includes muscles, ligaments and nerves along with bones and joints).
