The Town of Sahuarita has officially opened the 60-day public review period for the 2025 General Plan Update Draft

This draft is the cornerstone document that will shape how our town grows and thrives over the next 10 to 20 years.

This plan charts the course for land use, housing, transportation, parks, open space, environmental planning, and water resources. Everything that influences how we live, work, and do business in Southern Arizona.

Why It Matters for Residents and Businesses

Every 10 years, Arizona communities are required to update their General Plans. For Sahuarita, this is more than a compliance exercise; it’s a chance to dream forward.

For residents, it’s about quality of life: safe, connected neighborhoods, vibrant parks and open spaces, sustainable water planning, and thoughtful growth that keeps Sahuarita’s small-town warmth intact.

For businesses, it’s about clarity and confidence: predictable zoning, well-planned infrastructure, accessible transportation routes, and the ability to grow alongside a thriving community. A well-executed General Plan helps attract new investment, retain talent, and strengthen the local economy. Benefits that ripple across both Sahuarita and Green Valley.

The Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce is proud to represent both communities, each unique in its character and contribution, yet deeply connected in purpose. Together, they form a region defined by collaboration, resilience, and forward thinking.

What the General Plan Covers

The plan addresses the seven core elements required by Arizona law, each essential to building a strong foundation for the next decade:

  • Land Use – Where and how growth happens
  • Circulation – Roads, trails, and transportation networks
  • Open Space – Preserving the beauty and natural assets of our region
  • Growth Areas – Directing development to the right places
  • Environmental Planning – Protecting our environment and resources
  • Cost of Development – Ensuring growth remains financially sustainable
  • Water Resources – Planning for long-term water availability and resilience
