Green Valley Arizona AAUW Branch

The Green Valley branch has 140 members.  It meets on the third Tuesday of Each Month, September through May from 9-11 at the Desert Hills Social Center on Camino Del Sol.  The Association of University Women is a nationwide network of more than 100,00 members, donors and 1,000 branches.  Qualification for membership requires a degree or certificate from an accredited college or university.  The mission of AAUW is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, Philanthropy and research.  Green Valley AAUW members may participate in twelve different special interest groups, which include four book clubs, St. Andrew’s Sack Lunch Program, Lunch Bunch, It’s All About Travel, Needles and More, Exploring Women’s Culture, Gourmet Dinner Group, Public Policy and a Bridge Marathon.  The last two are open to the public.  In Addition to supporting national and state programs, the Green Valley branch’s charitable efforts include offering scholarships to Pima Community College students.  These contributions are made possible by donations and fundraising activities such as LUNA Fest, a film festival.

The Friends of the Green Valley Library is an organization of volunteers who support the Joyner-Green Valley and Sahuarita Libraries.  We organize library-based programs and provide funds for the support of other library programs and to purchase books, services, and other library materials. We raise funds through memberships, donations, and selling donated books in our two used bookstores.

Mitzvah (Good Deeds) Day is designed to encourage people to do good deeds, serve others and lift your spirits by providing the opportunity to work together in groups on worthwhile projects identified by non-profit community agencies located in Green Valley/Sahuarita and the Santa Cruz Valley.  Mitzvah Day draws individuals and faith group volunteers from these communities, who also provide word of mouth public relations in support of Mitzvah Day projects.
