Chamber Leaders Help Recognize Border Artists
Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy and former Chamber President Dan Cavanagh were guests of honor at the 2nd Annual Local Artists Open House hosted August 17 at the Mexican Consulate in Nogales.
Tom, also a former GVS Chamber board member, joined Consul General Ricardo Santana Velazquez and 15 artists from Nogales Az and Sonora in cutting the blue ribbon (see below) to open the week long display at the Consulate.
The invitation is part of a long term initiative by this Chamber to help improve cultural and economic relations within the I 19 Corridor. That effort will continue when the Consulate sponsors a performance of famed Hispanic pianist Hector Acosta September 28 at Saint Francis of the Valley Episcopal Church here in Green Valley.
Santana has invited Chamber and community leadership to return to the Consulate on September 14th to help celebrate the beginning of a 3 day festival to recognize the 208th anniversary of Mexican Independence.
